Meet Tara the Hero Cat Who Rescued Young Boy From Dog Attack (VIDEO)

Tara the cat has become a viral sensation. In the dramatic video below, you can see the cat rescue her 4-year-old owner after an angry dog attacks him.

Just 5 years ago, the cat was homeless. She followed Roger and Erica Triantafilo home from the park. According to ABC News, she quickly became attached to Jeremy, their infant son, often sleeping with him in his crib.

"She's a hero," says Jeremy about his sweet rescuer.

Blind Rescue Kitten Shows Teammate How to Play Soccer Like a Pro (VIDEO)

Amelie & Stevie.  Source: Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition
When you watch the energetic kitten Amelie at play, you would never guess she is blind. (See video, below.) She hones in on the crinkle ball with the precision of a laser beam. She bops the ball, then dribbles it across the floor like a professional soccer player. Her best friend and teammate, Stevie, watches her slick moves from the sidelines. According to the Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition, "Stevie is Amelie's seeing eye cat." The two rescue cats, Amelie and Stevie, were raised together and are always playing and cuddling together.

AMELIE PLAYS SOCCER

Amelie had such a bad eye infection when she was little that her eyes were removed. The blind kitten's sweet BFF cleaned her eyes for her after the procedure. The two kittens came from ACC when they were 4 weeks old. They are looking for their forever home and must be adopted as a pair.

Interested in Adopting?
Amelie and Stevie are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, FIV/FeLV negative, and microchipped. Amelie will require no further follow-up regarding her prior surgery.
If you are interested in adopting these sporty kitties, Please email BrooklynBridgeAnimals@yahoo.com to arrange a play date in their Brooklyn Heights foster home.

AMELIE & STEVIE ARE ALWAYS TOGETHER

For Cats: A 7-Step Guide to Walking Your Human (VIDEO)

An essential training video for all cats who own humans. In the video, the experienced trainer, Kodi the Kitten, demonstrates seven smart tips on walking your human.

Let's face it, humans are almost untrainable. They are stubborn... needy... and always on Facebook. Eventually, however, the human will catch on to the program. Repetition is the key to success. Remember at all times that you are the alpha cat.

And don't forget the nom-noms. Humans like encouragement and plenty of treats. Try chocolate. It works wonders.

Piggy, a fearless mountain-climbing house cat, conquers a ferocious summit. No, not Mt. Everest... the icy cold refrigerator. Watch her daring moves down the slippery slope.

Her owner says, "She performs her fridge walk on a daily basis although I have no idea how she first figured it out. She is seven years old but still acts like a kitten. There is never a dull moment with Piggy in the house!"

Memorial Day Moment: An American Soldier in Iraq with Cat (PHOTO)

American soldier with cat/ source: TimmytheCameraGuy

Tim Wilcox, was touched by this photo of his brother sharing a quiet moment with a cat during the Iraq war.
Wilcox said, "Although I didn't actually take this photo myself, it's my favorite photo of my brother Tom in Iraq because he took time out to set down his weapon and pet a kitty."
He put the photo up on Flickr, the photo sharing site, after he cropped it and did the black and white treatment in Adobe Lightroom.
He said the "original was an ordinary snapshot. This person probably had no idea he captured something so beautiful."
On this Memorial Day, thank you to the men and women who give and have given selflessly to their country.

Office Manager Cat Supports Animal Sanctuary's Work (SLIDESHOW)

Earl the Office Manager Cat is in charge.
Earl is an enterprising young man. He started working at Little Woman Home for Animals, a non-profit, no-kill sanctuary, as a warehouse clerk and rose quickly to Office Manager.

As Office Manager at the Little Woman Home for Animals (LWHA), Earl loves to promote the wonderful work the sanctuary does to help our animal friends. He'll feel he's really done his job if you take the time to look at some of LWHA's adorable cats seeking forever homes. Meet kitties, Brookshire and Joey, below. Or consider becoming a sponsor.

In the slideshow, "Earl the Cat's Rise to Office Manager," witness how the savvy feline climbed the ladder to success. LWHA has high praise for Earl, "His playfulness and utterly charming ways has made him a hit with staff and visitors alike from Day One."

Earl works at the 14-acre, unspoiled animal sanctuary, an hour north of Houston, Texas. The sanctuary's mission is to provide "lifetime care to abandoned, unwanted animals while actively seeking homes for their placement."

The sanctuary was started in 1999 by Dr. Carlos Arreola as a home for burros that were to be eradicated from their home in the Grand Canyon. The name of the sanctuary comes from a Chihuahua rescued over 35 years ago from an abusive situation.

This is Little Woman, who started it all:

Sunday Cat of the Week: Ledger (ADOPTED!!)

Ledger the cat relaxes.
Ledger the cat has a lot of admirers. The handsome 4-year old coon mix who resides at HART of Maine is loved by all the volunteers. He is so friendly. Are you interested in becoming one of Ledger's biggest fans? You can by providing him with a warm and loving home.

The cat was surrendered to HART because his owner was moving.

The rescue discovered that Ledger is FIV+. Cats who are FIV+ can live long, happy lives. Franny Syufy who writes the About.com Cat's guide reports that FIV cats "can lead a reasonably normal life span."

HART of Maine recommends for FIV+ cats:

  • sound diet
  • routine veterinary exams protection against secondary infection (i.e., vaccinate against other viral diseases, control parasites - fleas/worms/mites, keep indoors and away from other cats)

If you think you can give Ledger a forever home contact:

Spirited Kitten Healing from Fire Inspires

Jacob the kitten was recently saved by firefighters from a horrifying house fire, yet he has an indomitable spirit. The 3-month-old black and white kitten--now healing from the fire--has burns on all 4 paws and his whiskers had melted. Yet he wobbles around on his bandages determined to play.

Jacob is now being cared for at the Nebraska Humane Society. He will need medical treatment for some time but the medical team is "confident he will recover."

The good news from the Humane Society is,
"one of the police on scene has expressed an interest in adopting Jacob, and one of his caregivers is absolutely smitten with him, so we think he'll have a home before he's completely healed!"
The sweet kitten is an inspiration to all.

In honor of Jacob and his recusers good work, this week's "Sunday Cat of the Week" post will feature Mushu, a cat from the Nebraska Humane Society.
